Tommy Holmes was the undisputed slugger of the 1940s Boston Braves. Originally part of the Yankees farm system, Holmes consistently had high batting marks, but was unable to crack the late 1930’s New York lineup. Luckily, he was purchased by the Boston Braves in 1942 and spent the next decade hitting the ball for a .302 average. Holmes led the National League in home runs in 1945 and was a key member of the Braves 1948 pennant-winning team, batting a solid .325 in the leadoff spot. Holmes’ 1946-47 season Hillerich & Bradsby model bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. The right and back barrel show many ball marks along with abrasions from contact with other equipment and the ground. A classic gamer from one of the war year’s top sluggers. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15181) for the game use.
