Harry Brecheen pitched 11 seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals, winning 128 games and two World Series titles with St. Louis’ Senior Circuit outfit. Brecheen won the 1948 National League ERA title and made two All-Star teams during his tenure in St. Louis. Offered here is Brecheen’s contract for the 1946 MLB season, his fifth year with the Cardinals. Brecheen won 15 games and maintained a sterling 2.49 ERA for the Cardinals, who defeated the Boston Red Sox in the 1946 World Series. Brecheen almost single-handedly won the World Series for the Cardinals, tossing a complete game shutout in St. Louis’ 3-0 win in Game 2. Brecheen nearly did the same in Game 6, saving the Cardinals from elimination with another complete game in St. Louis’ 4-1 victory. Brecheen was called for duty in Game 7, pitching the final two innings of the deciding game to earn his third victory of the series. Brecheen was the first pitcher since Stan Coveleski in 1920 to win three contests in the same World Series. He ended the Fall Classic having surrendered only one run in 20 innings, good for an ERA of 0.45. This offered contract has been signed by Brecheen and Cardinals owner Sam Breadon in black pen.
