The life story of Babe Ruth is the quintessential achievement of the American Dream, and The Babe is certainly the only person qualified spin its mesmerizing tale. In his book, “The Babe Ruth Story”, Ruth recounts his baseball career, starting from his days as a catcher on the St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys baseball team to the late 1940’s, when Ruth was one of the most famous people in America.

Offered here is the very publishing contract Ruth signed with The Curtis Publishing Company for “The Babe Ruth Story” that paved the way for the release of the famous autobiography that also spawned a motion picture of the same name. The book was co-written with Bob Considine, a best-selling journalist and author, who, coincidentally, is interred in the same West Chester County cemetery as Ruth, whose name also appears on this contract. The contract is on three 8 x 12-inch thin white papers with black type and calls for Ruth to receive $35,000. The papers are stapled to a light blue document holder. On the front of the light blue document holder reads:

George Herman Ruth

Robert Considine

Melvyn Gordon Lowenstein

-and-

The Curtis Publishing Company

Agreement

Fennelly, Lowenstein, Engelhard & Pitcher 25 Broad Street, New York 4

Ruth’s signature appears on the third page in blue pen. He signed his name “George Herman Ruth”. A wonderful signature unlike many of the desirable signatures in this hobby due to his full name being used and no “Babe”. This document and cover have been folded to a dimension of 7 ¼ x 8 ½ inches. A truly significant Ruth signed document as Ruth would pass away less than a year from the November 28th, 1947 date of this contract. This signed document comes with a LOAs from PSA/DNA (AE00523) and SGC (AA08319), who authenticated Ruth’s signature.
