Presented here is a photograph of Babe Ruth with William Bendix during the filming of The Babe Ruth Story in 1948. The movie was based on William Considine’s biography of Ruth and released in late July of 1948, less than a month before Ruth’s tragically premature death from an aggressive form of cancer. The photograph shows Ruth, dressed in a jacket and slacks, giving Bendix instruction on how to hit like The Sultan of Swat. Bendix is dressed in a full Yankees home uniform, and a gaggle of interested observers looks on from the background of this photograph. The picture measures 6.5 x 7.75 inches and comes with a PSA/DNA Type III LOA (1P10468) stating that the photograph is a “period example that was made from an Acme wire transmission”.
