Presented is a 72-card complete set of 1948 Bowman basketball cards. Bowman's 1948 basketball production represented a departure for the gumcard manufacturer, as well as a gamble on an unproven sport. After the series' period of distribution, upon assessing the results of the effort and evidently disappointed by its sales, the company summarily abandoned the theme and thus unwittingly established a universally sought-after, one-year-only commemoration. Today, the world has turned, and 1948 Bowman basketball cards are cherished as early mementos of immortal Hall of Fame players, important but now-defunct teams and immeasurable nostalgic character. One card has been graded by PSA. Includes: #'s 1 Calverley (GD), 9 Phillip (presents EX/MT, trimmed), 10 Davies (VG/EX), 32 Holzman (presents VG, trimmed), 34 Fulks (VG/EX), 38 Jeanette (VG/EX), 46 McKinney (EX/MT), 54 Palmer (VG/EX), 55 Zaslofsky (presents EX, miscut), 58 Risen (VG), 66 Pollard (presents EX, miscut), 69 Mikan (PSA ) and 72 Braun (GD).
