Chuck Dressen was a third baseman for the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants from 1925 through 1933. After his playing days were over, Dressen would serve several stints as a manager and coach. His managerial stops included the Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators, Milwaukee Braves and Detroit Tigers. Dressen served on the coaching staff of the 94-60 New York Yankees under manager Bucky Harris. During the 1948 season, Dressen wore his home white with navy pinstriped flannel button-down Yankees’ jersey. This jersey has Dressen’s number “7”, which would soon be made famous by Mickey Mantle, sewn on the back in navy felt. The front of the jersey has a block letter “N” for the Newark Bears sewn on the upper left chest, which was sewn on to replace the traditional interlocking “NY”. This indicates that this jersey was recycled for minor league use, a common practice in that era. On the center front left tail is embroidered “Dressen 48” and the Spalding tag with a “DRY CLEAN ONLY Do Not Wash this Garment” tag, along with a “42” tag are sewn on the inside back collar. The jersey displays moderate use and shows toning and other stains. There also appears to be three areas of team repair patches on the back, including one to the left of the "7" and two below the number, along with other team repairs. This comes with a LOA from MEARS for the game use.
