As the 1950s began, Joe DiMaggio was the game’s elder statesman, the undisputed face of the game, a guy everyone wanted on their team. That season of 1950 would be the last one in which the Yankee Clipper reigned supreme as the star of the Yankees, for out west in Joplin was a kid named Mickey who would join him the following summer, ready to take his place as the new face of the game.
