As the 1950s began, Joe DiMaggio was the game’s elder statesman, the undisputed face of the game, a guy everyone wanted on their team. His 56-game hitting streak in 1941 coupled with his three MVP Awards and 8 World Championships made him a legend in his own time. That season of 1950 would be the last one in which the Yankee Clipper reigned supreme as the star of the Yankees, for out west in Joplin was a kid named Mickey who would join him the following summer, ready to take his place as the new face of the game. This stunning game used by was wielded by DiMaggio during that 1950 season, in which he hit .301, banged out 31 home runs and led the Yankees to yet another World Championship by beating the Phillies in four games. The Hillerich & Bradsby D29L model bat shows good game use with several ball marks and scuffs visible along with cleat imprints. But what puts this bat over the top is that the great DiMaggio has signed the barrel, right below his stamped signature, in strong black marker, his flowing script contrasting nicely against the warm brown of the bat’s finish. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B03314) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.5 and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A52482) for the signature.
