The Uruguayan defender Matias Gonzalez was presented with this Jules Rimet Trophy after la celeste won the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Gonzalez, who played for C.A. Cerro in Uruguay, appeared in all four of Uruguay’s games during the World Cup, including their historic 2-1 victory over Brazil at the Estadio Maracana to clinch the World Cup title. Gonzalez earned 31 appearances for the Uruguay National Soccer Team, including appearances in three South American Championships.

This offered Jules Rimet Trophy shows the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, standing on a black plinth backed by a black support. A plaque affixed to the plinth is etched with “Campeon del Mundo A Matias Gonzalez 1950”, “Realizacion de S.A.B.U. S.A. Broncerias Unidas”, and “EDUSA Escoberias del Uruguay S.A. Montevideo”. This trophy is a fascinating piece of history from the greatest upset in World Cup history! This item comes with a letter of provenance from Marcel Alejandro Pesce Arremon, who states in his letter that this trophy was "was received by me from Matias Gonzalez."
