Offered in this lot are three passes to NFL Championship Games in the early 1950s. The first pass is for the 1950 NFL Championship Game, a 30-28 victory for the Cleveland Browns over the Los Angeles Rams. Browns signal-caller Otto Graham threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns while running for 99 yards on 12 carries. Dante Lavelli grabbed 11 catches for 128 yards and two scores and Rams halfback Dick Hoerner picked up 86 rushing yards and two scores. This pass stub, a photographer’s roof access pass, has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA (04700885).
The second pass is from the 1952 NFL Championship Game between the Detroit Lions and the Browns. The Lions won this game 17-7, with rushing touchdowns from quarterback Bobby Layne and halfback Doak Walker providing the Lions with their winning margin. This pass stub has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA (20810076).
The final pass in this lot is from the 1953 NFL Championship Game, a rematch between the Browns and the Lions at Briggs Stadium in Detroit. The Lions won a second consecutive title in a 17-16 thriller as Jim Doran’s 33-yard touchdown reception from Bobby Layne in the fourth quarter powered Detroit to victory. Doak Walker ran for another touchdown in this game, while the Lions fearsome defense held Cleveland QB Otto Graham to a 2-15, two interception performance.
