By the time 1951 rolled around, Hall of Famer Stan Musial had already won three National League MVP Awards and finished second in the MVP voting twice. Musial was the face the St. Louis Cardinals’ franchise and Stan “The Man” signed this offered Uniform Player’s Contract for the 1951 season. Musial signed this contract on February 18, 1951 and the contract calls for a salary of $75,000, which in today’s money would be roughly equivalent to approximately $735,000.

The first page of this contract has “UNIFORM PLAYER’S CONTRACT” across the top in black print with “National League of Professional Baseball Clubs” below that in red print. The contract starts “Between ST. LOUIS NATIONAL BASEBALL CLUB, INC., herein called the Club, and STANLEY F. MUSIAL of 5447 Childress, St.Louis 9, Mo., herein called the Player.” For the payment it reads “For performance of the Player’s services and promises hereunder the Club will pay the Player the sum of $75,000.00 (SEVENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS)…..”

Musial’s signature appears on the bottom of the third page and he signed his name “Stanley F. Musial”. Also signed on this contract is the signature of then-Cardinals’ President Fred Saigh. Additionally, on the third page are two additional addendums that were glued on with one of them guaranteeing two bonuses for $5,000.00 each for attendance figures of the Cardinals that reached 900,000 and 1,200,000. Both of these attached addendums are loose, but included with this contract. This is a wonderful Stan Musial signed item with the rare middle initial. The contract is in good overall condition displaying some toning and edge/corner wear. There are folds on each page consistent with being put into an envelope. This contact comes with a LOA from JSA (Z31978) for Musial and Saigh signatures.
