Larry Regan, the Ontario native followed a long and winding road to the NHL, putting his time in with an endless list of semi-pro and low-level minor league teams for the better part of a decade. But when Regan final made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins in 1956, he made it count. The 27-year-old scored a career high 14 goals and won the Calder Memorial Trophy – the NHL’s Rookie of the Year Award. At the time Regan was the oldest player to be given the award, a distinction he would hold for three decades. Regan later became a well-respected manager and coach and eventually president of the NHL Alumni Association. This is Larry Regan’s Calder Memorial Trophy awarded to him after his brilliant 1956-57 rookie campaign. The trophy measures 12 ½ inches tall and has a 6 x 6-inch base. The engraved brass plaque mounted on its wooden base reads “Larry Regan Boston Bruins 1956-57,” upon which a silver urn engraved with “Calder Memorial Trophy” is engraved. The trophy is in very good condition with just light toning and abrasions from age. The trophy comes with a signed LOA from Larry Regan for the provenance.
