Offered in this lot is a ceramic Jules Rimet Trophy originating from Brazil after the South American titans won their first FIFA World Cup title in 1958. This tournament marked the World Cup debut of the 17-year old Pele, who scored a team-high six goals in Sweden, including a brace during Brazil’s 5-2 defeat of the host country in the final match. Pele scored in all three knockout games for Brazil, notching the game’s only goal in Brazil’s 1-0 win over Wales in the quarterfinals and scoring a hat trick in the selecao’s 5-2 win over Just Fontaine and France in the semifinals. Vava scored five goals for Brazil in the 1958 World Cup as Brazil finished the tournament undefeated.

This offered Jules Rimet Trophy is ceramic, and it displays the winged Greek goddess of victory, Nike, standing atop a black plinth. The Jules Rimet Trophy was retired from use after Brazil won their third World Cup title in 1970. This trophy shows minor wear due to age but is otherwise in great condition. This item comes with a letter of provenance from Marcel Alejandro Pesce Arremon who states in his letter that this trophy "was received by me in one of our trips to Brazil buying historical pieces of football."
