Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won the first of his nearly countless trophies in 1959 while playing for the Inwood Little League when he was known as Lew Alcindor. The St. Jude’s Elementary School student was 12 years old in 1959 and on his way to becoming one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. This trophy measures just under 10 inches tall and stands on a base that measures 3 x 5 inches at its widest dimensions. The trophy is topped with a statuette of a baseball player. A sliding plaque on the trophy reads “John J. Woefel / Memorial Trophy / 1959”.  This historically significant trophy, the first trophy won by the six-time MVP and NBA’s all-time leading scorer, derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.

Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium (28% if payment is made using a credit card and/or is not paid within 10 days of invoice). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price to The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
