Former MLB infielder Dick Schofield wore this Rawlings fielder’s glove during the 1960 MLB season. Schofield was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates World Series winning team in ’60, playing a key role for the Pirates down the stretch. 1960 NL MVP and starting shortstop Dick Groat went down with a wrist injury late in the season, forcing Schofield to step into the starting lineup. Schofield performed admirably, hitting .333 during 1960 and over .400 down the final stretch of the season. He replicated this performance during the World Series, compiling a .333 batting average as the Pirates stunned the Yankees in seven games. Schofield played several more seasons with the Pirates before embarking on a tour around the league over his final few seasons, with stops in St. Louis, Boston, Los Angeles, and several other teams. Schofield was the head of a baseball dynasty, as his son, Dick Schofield Jr., and grandson Jayson Werth both enjoyed long and successful MLB careers.
This glove is a brown leather Rawlings Trap-eze model glove. It shows heavy use, including a small tear between the index and middle finger slots. The Rawlings logo on the wrist strap has worn away with time. Schofield wrote his nickname, “Duck” on the glove in black marker. This item comes with a LOA from Dick Schofield himself.
