Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Courtsmen Award for Outstanding Metropolitan High School Athlete for the 1964-65 basketball season. Abdul-Jabbar, known then as Lew Alcindor, was a star for Power Memorial Academy in New York City, winning both the 1964 and 1965 Mr. Basketball USA honors, and becoming the first two-time winner of the award since Jerry Lucas. This award measures 8 x 12 inches. A plaque on the award is etched with “Courtsmen Award / To / Lew Alcindor / Outstanding Metropolitan / High School Athlete / 1964-65”. Please note that one of the two decorative adornments on either side of the plaque has fallen off, but the award is in otherwise sterling condition. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
