Although the New York Renaissance basketball team existed before the NBA, they hold a strong claim as the greatest basketball team of all-time. Playing in the barnstorming era of the sport, the all-black Rens defeated nearly every squad they faced, amassing a record of over 2,500 wins in their 26 years as a team. In 1964, “The Renaissance Team” were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for their monumental contributions to modern basketball. Offered here is the 1964 Certificate of Election plaque for the Rens originating from the personal collection of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. This plaque features the Rens team photograph and a rundown of their players, including legendary figures such as “Tarzan” Cooper, Eyre Saitch, and “Pappy” Ricks. This plaque measures 13 x 10.5 inches and comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
