Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was awarded this John Norton Memorial Award as the MVP of the 1965 C.H.S.A.A. Championship Playoff. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, was one of the greatest high school players in New York history. A two-time Mr. Basketball USA, Abdul-Jabbar’s high school games sometimes drew over 10,000 fans to gyms all across the east coast. From New York, Abdul-Jabbar crossed coasts to attend college at the University of California, Los Angeles before embarking on a pro career in Milwaukee and Los Angeles.

This offered trophy is constructed of a 7 x 7-inch base with a 5-inch tall pedestal. A 14-inch tall statuette of a basketball player tops this trophy, extending its height to a total of 19.5 inches. A sliding plaque on the pedestal reads “John Norton Memorial / Trophy / Awarded To The / Most Valuable Player / Of The 1965 C.H.S.A.A. / Championship Playoff”. A raised C.H.S.A.A. seal is affixed to the plaque. This historically significant trophy derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
