Presented is the 1966 Coach & Athlete Magazine Player of the Year Award presented to former Syracuse University guard Dave Bing. The 10 ½ x 13-inch laminated brown wood plaque has the legend, in black and red letters within a gold border on tan paper, “Coach & Athlete Magazine Award This certifies that Dave Bing Syracuse has been named Player of the Year in Basketball 1966 For East Region Presented this 1st Day of April 1966.” Bing is still considered the greatest basketball player in Syracuse history. In his senior year (1965-1966 season), Bing was Syracuse's first consensus All-American in 39 years and was fifth in the nation in scoring with 28.4 points per game, still a Syracuse record. He played 12 seasons in the NBA, primarily with the Detroit Pistons, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.
