Originating from the personal memorabilia collection of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is this Helms Athletic Foundation 1967-68 Collegiate Player of the Week University Division award. Abdul-Jabbar, then in his junior season with the UCLA Bruins and known as “Lew Alcindor”, was named the Player of the Week three times, for the weeks of December 11th, 1967, January 2nd, 1968, and March 4th, 1968. Abdul-Jabbar was easily the best player in college basketball during the 1967-68 season, averaging 26.2 points and 16.5 rebounds per game on 61.3% shooting. UCLA stormed to their second straight national title in 1967-68, easily dispatching a strong North Carolina squad 78-55 in the national final behind Abdul-Jabbar’s 34 points and 16 rebounds. This Helms Athletic Foundation award is a certificate encased in a 17 x 14-inch padded display. It is in good condition, and it comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar himself.
