Presented is a pen used by President Lyndon Johnson to sign congressional legislation into law in 1968.  The blue plastic and silver metal pen has a stamped “Lyndon B. Johnson” signature and the White House seal in gold ink on the blue plastic grip.  The pen is in a 2 x 6-inch white and gold cardboard box with the seal of the President of the United States and Pres. Johnson’s signature printed in blue ink on the box top. The pen is mounted on a felt card with an elastic strip; under the card is a refill cartridge and instructions printed in blue on white paper, from the “Eversharp Pen Company, A Subsidiary of the Parker Pen Company.” In the box is a black typed slip of white paper with the notation: “This is a pen from the ceremony on August 2, 1968, when the President signed H.R. 15387, an act which includes a provision exempting certain postal employees from the personnel limitations of the Revenue and Expenditure Control Act of 1968.” Johnson served as the 36th president of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Formerly the 37th vice president of the United States from 1961 to 1963, he assumed the presidency following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
