Encapsulated and assessed Authentic by SGC. Hall of Famer. The great Bob Gibson is shown extending his left arm, in a pitching motion, on this unissued, blank-backed proof piece from the 1968 Topps issue. Ultimately, this design did not pass muster with the proofers: Gibson, of course, was a right-handed pitcher. (It's probable that Gibson "pranked" the Topps photographer during an on-field photo shoot, as numerous ballplayers attempted to do during the 1960's.) This full-color depiction, which exists only in proof card form, is likely hand-cut. The rarity concedes very little evidence of past handling but displays editorial notations in pencil on its otherwise unprinted reverse.
