Gil Hodges made his return to New York to manage the New York Mets in 1968. The Mets, of course, had been suffering through season after season of losing since their inception in 1962. While the Mets still finished under .500 in 1968 in Hodges’ first year at the helm, the team under his tutelage began to turn the corner. By 1969, Hodges’ Mets shocked the baseball world by winning the World Series over the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles. In 1970 Hodges returned as a World Series champion manager.

Offered here are a pair of home white flannel with blue pinstriped pants worn by Mets’ manager Gil Hodges during the 1970 season. These pains are a size 36 waist and manufactured by Spalding. The pants are a four-button style with crotch airholes and have built-in flannel white and blue pinstriped belt loops and two pockets on the back. The Spalding tag with the “SET 1 #8P 1970” flag, along with the dry cleaning instructions and size 36 tags are sewn on the inside waist. Also sewn on the inside waist is the white Mets’ team tag that reads “37 27 70 14” which identifies the waist size, inseam, year and player/coach”.
