Milwaukee Bucks center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won the third of his six career NBA MVP awards at the end of the 1973-74 season. Abdul-Jabbar, the MVP in 1970-71 and 1971-72, was the linchpin of a strong Bucks squad that won 59 games and claimed their fourth straight Midwest Division title under legendary head coach Larry Costello. The great Abdul-Jabbar averaged 27 points per game in 1973-74 while grabbing 14.5 rebounds and swatting 3.5 shots per game. The Bucks offense flowed through their star frontcourt player, with Abdul-Jabbar directing the offense to the tune of 4.8 assists per contest. Kareem and the Bucks reached the NBA Finals for the second time in Abdul-Jabbar’s career, although a Boston Celtics squad laden with future Hall of Famers defeated the Bucks in a contentious seven-game series. Abdul-Jabbar single-handedly took the Celtics the distance, averaging 32.6 points and 12.1 rebounds per game in the Finals.

Abdul-Jabbar was awarded the MVP trophy in a landslide, garnering 74 first place votes to Bob McAdoo’s 60. Offered here is the very same 1973-74 Maurice Podoloff Trophy presented to Abdul-Jabbar. This stunning and historically significant trophy stands on a 10.25 x 10.25-inch base and measures approximately 47 inches tall. A plaque on the base reads “National Basketball / Association / Most Valuable Player / Kareem Abdul-Jabbar” while a smaller plaque above this one reads “Podoloff / Trophy / 1973-1974”. The trophy features four columns supporting a 9 x 9-inch wooden plinth decorated with two silver and two gold basketball player statuettes that measure 6.25 inches tall. A trophy cup topped by a 9.75-inch tall basketball player is located atop the wooden plinth. This trophy is in excellent condition and it comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
