As one of the most beloved athletes in Houston, Rudy Tomjanovich had a solid career with the Houston Rockets. In his 11 seasons with the franchise, “Rudy T” as he was so often referred to, averaged 17.4 points per game and later led the team to back-to-back NBA titles as head coach. Tomjanovich will also be remembered as a victim of one of the most violent incidents in NBA history, when he was punched in the jaw by Lakers’ forward Kermit Washington during an altercation that left him severely injured.
