In 1975, rookies Jim Rice and Fred Lynn (known as “The Gold Dust” twins) helped lead the Boston Red Sox to their first World Series appearance since 1967. Unfortunately, Rice was injured the last week of the regular season and was unable to play against the Oakland A’s in the ALCS or the vaunted Big Red machine, forever forcing Red Sox fans to ask, “What if?” Rice was second in the American League that season in the Rookie of the Year voting, and third in the MVP voting, both behind his fellow rookie teammate.

The Hall of Famer Rice wore this Boston Red Sox road gray pullover jersey during the memorable 1975 season – his first full season and rookie year. This size 42 jersey was manufactured by McAuliffe Uniform Corp. of Brockton, MA. The jersey features “BOSTON” in Tuscan font sewn on across the chest in red and navy tackle twill. The McAuliffe and “42” tags are sewn on the inside back collar. Additional “1975” and wash tags are sewn at the base of the center front tail. The V-Neck collar has a ribbed material in a red/navy/red pattern. The back of the jersey has Rice’s number “14” sewn on in McAuliffe-style red and navy tackle twill. Rice has signed his gamer in black marker below the “BOS” on the front of the jersey and inscribed “Game Used”. The jersey displays moderate game use with wash wear, slightly puckered tackle twill and faded thread. This comes with LOAs from Sports Investors Authentication (191106D4) for the game use and from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25393) for the signature.
