Offered is a 1977 Woody Hayes Trophy as Collegiate Football Coach of the Year presented by the Touchdown Club of Columbus, Ohio to Hall of Fame College Coach Lou Holtz. The 17 1/2-inch tall trophy incorporates a silver metal figure of an "Olympian" with right arm upraised, holding a laurel wreath, set atop a silver metal base with the legend "The Touchdown Club of Columbus" engraved below. Below the figure, on a 6 1/4 x 4 1/4 x 3 1/2-inch brown wood base, with a black and silver metal plaque on the front. The plaque is engraved with the caption "Woody Hayes Trophy Collegiate Football Coach of the Year Lou Holtz Arkansas 1977". On the underside of the base is a gold and black plaque with the logo of Auld Crafters, Inc. of Columbus. In their first year under Holtz, the Razorbacks compiled an 11–1 record (7–1 against Southwestern Conference opponents), finished in second place in the SWC, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 389 to 101. The Razorbacks' only loss was to SWC champion Texas by a 13–9 score. The team advanced to 1978 Orange Bowl, defeating #2 Oklahoma 31–6. Arkansas was ranked #3 in both the final AP Poll and the final UPI Coaches Poll. This comes with a LOA from Lou Holtz and 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of this item will benefit the Holtz Charitable Foundation, Inc.
