Powered by the bat of Reggie Jackson and the one-for-the-ages season of starting pitcher Ron Guidry, the 1978 New York Yankees defended their World Series title, repeating as Major League Baseball’s champions. A six-game defeat of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic gave the Yankees their 22nd title in franchise history. Jackson slugged 27 home runs during the regular season, then batted .391 with two homers and eight RBIs vs. the Dodgers while the hot bat of Bucky Dent won him the World Series Most Valuable Player. Guidry finished the season with an unthinkable 25-3 record to go with a dominating 1.74 ERA.

This glorious trophy is the end result of the season that saw the Yankees repeat as World Champions! While several smaller trophies are produced for the players and executives, this massive piece was one of the owner's trophies. Standing at 28 inches tall, 13 inches in diameter and weighing more than 30 pounds, very few of these impressive trophies were created for Yankees’ ownership to display. 26 gold plated flags on poles represent all the teams in each league and are mounted on the outside edge of the circular base. There is a silver mounted baseball on the base of a gold circle with a crown on top. There are two ornate pins mounted on gold stands. The left pin is a Yankees’ pin with the Yankee Stadium façade and the Yankees’ hat logo with “32nd WORLD SERIES” printed in gold on a blue backing. The second pin is a Dodgers Stadium scoreboard theme with the interlocking “LA” on top and “WORLD SERIES” printed in gold on a black backdrop and “Dodgers” below. The base of this trophy has a gold strip that reads “WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS NEW YORK YANKEES 1978”. A one-of-a-kind piece from one of the great seasons in the illustrious history of the New York Yankees!
