Offered here is the box that contained the last ever bat order from New York Yankees captain Thurman Munson. Munson, of course, tragically passed away on August 2nd, 1979 after the Cessna plane he was piloting, crashed just outside of the Akron-Canton Regional Airport in Ohio. The box measures approximately 35 inches long, nine inches wide and six inches deep. “Louisville Slugger Bats” is boldly printed in black on all four sides. The top flaps of the opened box read “NEW YORK YANKEES” in faded black ink with “Munson” hand written in black marker below. The last order for Munson included 12 bats and were shipped on July 30, 1979, two days before his passing. There is an American Airlines freight sticker with the weight hand written at 26 pounds and the airport code of LGA for LaGuardia Airport. The box displays heavy wear, with water marks and other abrasions.
