The Gold Glove Award is the ultimate acknowledgement of a ballplayer's fielding ability and the late 70's to early 80's Royals second baseman Frank White basically owned the Award. His sparkling glove work combined with George Brett to give Kansas City one of the most solid right sides in the game. White was MVP of the 1980 ALCS penning the door to the Royals first World Series appearance. White was a five time All-Star and today he's immortalized in the form of a bronze statue outside Kauffman Stadium. 1982, the year this award dates to, marked the sixth consecutive year Frank White won the Gold Glove Award, and he'd will another two before he retired. The iconic 17” x 16” trophy displays a gold-painted Rawlings Frank White model Major League All-Star Fielding Team glove mounted on a solid oak platform featuring a photo of White embossed onto a metallic gold colored plate. A pair of gold painted Rawlings baseballs supported by golden tripods flank the glove. The base has a golden plaque engraved with "1982 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Presented to FRANK WHITE HONORING HIS SELECTION TO THE SPORTING NEWS AMERICAN LEAGUE ALL-STAR FIELDING TEAM". A pair of red Rawlings logos complete the plaque. The trophy shows some wear with age: there are a handful of dings in the plaque with White's portrait and the lower plaque has come loose on one edge. The wooden base shows wear from storage and age, a small crack is visible on the left side of the lower wooden base at the back and the edges show some wear from it being on display. A few dents are found in the pedestal below the base of the golden glove and one of the baseballs has some discoloration around the Rawlings logo. This coveted award still retains its impressive presence, a true icon of sports awards.
