With a lineup consisting of Lance Parrish, Kirk Gibson, Alan Trammel and Lou Whitaker, a pitching staff including Jack Morris, Dan Petry and Milt Wilcox (all 17+ game winners), and 1984 Cy Young and AL MVP winner Willie Hernandez out of the bullpen, the Detroit Tigers won 104 games en route to a 5-game World Series victory over the San Diego Padres. Set atop a 7 ¼” diameter base, this Balfour-made trophy is 12" high at its peak and features 26 gold-colored pennants around the base, representing each Major League team from the 1984 season. A silver baseball sits in the center, serving as the base holding in place a 1 ½” gold ring, atop which sits a gold-colored crown. In front of the silver ball are two press pins, representing the Tigers and the Padres. The trophy's base is surrounded by a gold band reading “WORLD CHAMPIONS DETROIT TIGERS 1984”. This particular trophy is not attributed to any individual member of the 1984 Tigers squad. The base shows some minor chips and wear, and some of the team names show slight fading on the pennants, as well as some fading on the gold band on the base. A unique piece of baseball history, and a welcome addition to any collection. Comes in a detachable clear plastic display case together with the consignor's purchase LOA.
