The recently enshrined closer Lee Smith wore this blue Chicago Cubs alternate pullover jersey during the 1984 MLB season. Smith made 69 appearances in 1984, winning nine decisions and recording 33 saves. Smith’s work at the end of the bullpen helped the Cubs to a 96-win season and the National League East Division title. The Cubs took the San Diego Padres the distance in the 1984 National League Championship Series, but a Friars victory in Game 5 set up a World Series between San Diego and the Detroit Tigers. Smith retired after the 1997 MLB season with 478 career saves, then the most in baseball history, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 by the Today’s Game Committee.

This offered pullover jersey has a circular Cubs logo patch sewn on the left chest. “SMITH” and his number “46” are sewn on the back of the jersey in red and white tackle twill. A Cubs logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve and a 1984 National League East Division patch is sewn on the right sleeve. A Wilson size “46” tag and a “46 84 1 46” swatch are sewn on the back inside collar. An “84” year tag is sewn on the front left tail. Smith has signed the “4” digit on the back of this jersey in black marker. This jersey comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication for use and a LOA from JSA (BB11033) for Smith’s signature.
