Led by Hall of Fame manager Dick Williams, the San Diego Padres made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn was the National League batting champion with a .351 batting average and the addition of Hall of Famer Goose Gossage anchored the bullpen with 25 saves. The Padres won the NL West with a 92-70 record and erased an 0-2 deficit to the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS to advance to the World Series, where they eventually fell to the Detroit Tigers.

Offered here is a 1984 San Diego Padres National League Champions employee ring. This 10K gold ring was made by Balfour and presented to then scout James Marshal. It has the Padres “SD” interlocking logo on the front filled with cz stones on a large yellow stone. “PADRES” and “NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS” surrounds the outside in raised lettering. The left shank has “1984” on the top in raised numbering with a banner below that reads “DREAMS CAN COME TRUE”. An image of Jack Murphy Stadium with the swinging padre logo in the middle of the stadium is below and “RAK” on a home plate is at the bottom for the late owner Ray Kroc. The opposite shank has “MARSHALL” in raised lettering on the top with a National League eagle logo and columns below. The inside of this ring has the “BALFOUR 10K” stamp and this ring weighs approximately 29.66 grams and is a size 8 ½. The ring is in good overall condition, showing appropriate age wear and comes with a letter of provenance from Jaimee M. Marshall, the grandchild of James Marshall.
