The Los Angeles Lakers star started the game for Pat Riley’s Western Conference team, scoring 11 points and pulling down six rebounds in 23 minutes of exhibition action. The West outscored the East 72 to 61 in the second half as they pulled away for a comfortable 140-129 victory in Indianapolis. The Lakers finished the season 62-20, easily winning the Pacific Division by a 20-game margin, before demolishing the Suns, Blazers, Nuggets, and finally the Boston Celtics to claim the 1985 NBA title. Kareem was named the Finals MVP for his Herculean 25.7 / 9.0 / 5.2 per game averages.
