Top Gun was one of the most successful movies of 1986, pulling in a staggering $356 million at the box office, largely thanks to the magnetic draw of the movie’s star, Tom Cruise. Cruise played LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a United States Naval Aviator. The hot-shot pilot of his training group, Cruise stars alongside Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Kelly McGillis in this historic film. In 2015, Top Gun was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

The item presented here is Cruise’s 10-page contract for Top Gun. He is guaranteed at least $1 million in compensation, a number that surely had studio executives happy. As Cruise’s production company, TC Productions, Inc., was also involved in this film, Cruise has signed the contract twice, once as an employer and once as an artist. Beneath his first signature, Cruise inscribed “Pres.” for his role with TC Productions. A red “Executed” stamp is present on the first page of this contract. The papers are loose, and not stapled together. This item comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C84531).
