The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wore this yellow Los Angeles Lakers uniform during the 1987-88 NBA season. This was Abdul-Jabbar’s 19th and penultimate NBA season, and the former UCLA star started 80 games for the 62-20 Lakers. Kareem scored 14.6 points per game for Pat Riley’s Lakers, adding 6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game as he helped lead Los Angeles to the Pacific Division title. The Lakers defeated the Spurs, Jazz, and Mavericks in the Western Conference Playoffs to set up an NBA Finals matchup against the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons. With the Lakers facing elimination in Game 6, Abdul-Jabbar nailed two clutch free throws with 14 seconds left to give the Lakers a 103-102 victory at The Forum. The Lakers won Game 7 108-105, giving Abdul-Jabbar the sixth and final title of his storied career.

 Included in this lot are Abdul-Jabbar’s home jersey and shorts from the 1987-88 season. The jersey is yellow, with “LAKERS” and Abdul-Jabbar’s number “33” sewn on the chest in purple and white tackle twill. “ABDUL-JABBAR” and a second “33” are sewn on the back of the jersey in purple and white tackle twill. The shoulders and collar are accented with a white-purple-white band. A NBA logo patch is sewn on the left shoulder. “87”, “4[inch] LB”, Sand-Knit, and MacGregor size “44” tags are sewn on the front left tail. Additionally, a blank swatch is sewn on the front left tail. Abdul-Jabbar has signed the second “3” digit on the chest in black marker. Abdul-Jabbar’s shorts are yellow, purple, and white, with a NBA logo patch sewn on the right leg. Tags sewn on the back inside waistband include “87”, Sand-Knit, Sand-Knit size “34”, “2[inch] HR”, “2[inch] LB”, and “33” tags. A blank swatch is also sewn inside the waistband. This jersey comes with a LOA from Sports Investors photo matching the jersey an undated 1987-88 season game, as well as a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
