The Oakland A’s were matched up against their cross-bay rivals, the San Francisco Giants, in a World Series interrupted for 10 days by the infamous and deadly Loma Prieta earthquake that occurred mere minutes before the start of Game 3. Despite this act of God, the A’s swept the World Series in four games over a two-week period and won their first title since 1974.

This 12-inch tall, scale-model replica of the Commissioner’s [World Series] Trophy was created by Balfour. The classic design features 26 gold colored pennants labeled with the names of every Major League team circling a golden crown on top of a golden band with a silver baseball set at the base of the ring’s interior. Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants press pins are mounted on smaller golden flag poles in front of the crowned band. “WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OAKLAND ATHLETICS 1989 DAVE KELLEY” is printed on a gold band circling the 23-inch diameter black wooden base. The trophy is in good condition and all of the pendants are in place.
