Nolan Ryan recorded the 5,000th strikeout of his career on August 22nd, 1989, during a 2-0 home loss to the Oakland Athletics at Arlington Stadium. Ryan struck out 13 batters in a complete-game performance, recording his milestone punchout against Rickey Henderson in the fifth inning. Ryan, at 42 years old and in his 23rd MLB season, rifled a 96 mile per hour fastball past a swinging Henderson in a vintage performance. Ryan recorded 301 strikeouts in 1989, making his eighth All-Star team and winning 16 games for the 83-79 Rangers. Offered here is a ticket stub to Ryan’s 5,000th strikeout game.
