For a time, it looked like Bo Jackson could do anything. As big a star on the gridiron as he was in the outfield, Jackson became a household name, even fronting his own line of Nike products. As could be expected, being a two-sport star had its consequences, and a hip injury suffered in the 1990 NFL Playoffs diminished his once boundless talents. After hip replacement surgery, Jackson was picked up by the Chicago White Sox and this offered batting helmet worn by Jackson dates to the 1991-1993 seasons. This helmet was manufactured by American Baseball Cap Company (ABC) and is a size 7 1/8. “SOX” is applied diagonally with a white decal on the front of this all-black helmet. The brim has remnants of a decal. The back has Jackson’s number “8” affixed with a black sticker with white borders. The back also has the ABC logo with a Chicago flag decal to its left. There is an ear flap on the left ear for right-handed batters and the interior padding is still intact. Jackson has signed his name in silver marker on the top of the brim and inscribed “8”. This helmet displays outstanding game use with numerous abrasions and marks. This comes with a LOA from MEARS for the game use, plus a letter of provenance from John Bills, who was once a bat boy and clubhouse attendant, and states that this helmet was acquired during his time with the club. Additionally, there is a LOA from JSA for the signature.
