By 1991, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls began their ascendancy into the upper echelon of the NBA. Jordan and the Bulls finally knocked off the hated Bad Boy Detroit Pistons in the 1991 playoffs and defeated Magic Johnson and the Lakers in the NBA Finals. This would be Jordan and the Bulls’ first of six titles. Offered here are a pair of Nike Air Jordan VI sneakers worn by Jordan during the October 29, 1991 game against the Miami Heat as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Centennial 100 Year Celebration Game played in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Jordan scored 21 points in the exhibition game as the defending champion Bulls defeated Miami 124-118 to finish their preseason with an 8-1 record. Jordan and the Bulls would win their second title in a row during the 1991-92 season. These sneakers are white with red and black trim. The tops of these shoes are white, including the tongue which has “JORDAN” in raised lettering with “AIR” placed between the “ORDA”. The outside soles have a black stripe and the heels have a black arch with a red stripe on the top and “NIKE AIR” in red. These sneakers are a size 13 and display excellent game use. There are abrasion marks on the outsides, along with cracking and small missing pieces on the rubber borders. Jordan has signed the outside heel area of each shoe in black marker. According to our consigner, who provided us personal images of him with Jordan (not included with the lot) he had a relationship with Jordan as he coached Jordan at a basketball camp referenced in the newspaper article. Jordan handed these sneakers to his son following the game. The following day, his son took them to school to show them off and there was a newspaper article written on November 1, 1991 only two days after the Hall of Fame game. A copy of the newspaper article accompanies the sneakers. These also come with a LOA from MEARS (317166) for the game use and individual LOAs from JSA for the signatures.
