United States icon Michelle Akers won this 1991 CONCACAF Qualifier Tournament gold medal after the United States blew away the field to win the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification tournament. The United States were one of eight teams competing in Port-au-Prince, and the Stars and Stripes immediately proved why they were World Cup favorites. In three group stage games the United States won 12-0, 12-0, 10-0, before destroying semifinal foes Haiti 10-0 to advance to the finals against Canada. Behind a hat trick from Akers, including a pair of goals in 3’ and 13’, the United States won 5-0 to earn tournament gold. Akers scored 11 goals to win the Golden Boot, a feat she would go on to replicate in the World Cup, winning the award with 10 goals against the best competition in the world.
This offered 1991 CONCACAF medal is silver, with a goal, a ball, and a cleat etched in high-relief on the front. Etched on the back of the medal is “CONCACAF First Place”. The medal is attached to a red, white, and blue ribbon. This medal comes with a LOA from Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
