The only thing keeping Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. from catching Lou Gehrig for the all-time consecutive games streak was a labor war between the owners and players that ultimately doomed the finish of the 1994 season and the beginning of the 1995 season. Ripken played in all 112 games in 1994, hitting 13 home runs, driving in 75 and maintaining a solid .315 average. Coming directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr., this is the very Baltimore Orioles batting helmet worn by the Iron Man himself. This helmet is all black with the Orioles bird logo affixed to the front. Ripken’s number “8” is affixed to the top brim in orange and the back has an ABC logo (American Baseball Cap Co.) decal with the MLB logo decal with gold accents – the style used during the 1994 season to commemorate baseball’s 125th Anniversary. The helmet has an ear flap on the left side. There are two stickers on the inside “american baseball cp MEDIA, PA 19063 7 3/8” sticker and a Warning sticker. The helmet displays excellent evidence of game use and contains wear on the soft headguards on the inside of the hat, ear foam detached from the ear flap, and numerous abrasions and scratches throughout. This game used helmet worn by Ripken Jr. during the 1994 season comes from his personal collection comes with a LOA from J.T. Sports (1380) for the game use and a signed LOA from Ripken Jr.
