United States soccer star Michelle Akers was presented with this display after winning the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics with the United States Women’s Soccer Team. This was the first Olympics to contest women’s soccer, and the United States dominated the entire tournament en route to gold. The USWNT defeated China, their future opponents in the 1999 FIFA World Cup Final, by a score of 2-1 at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. Akers scored in the semifinals to help send the USA to the gold medal match.

This offered display contains a 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics championship certificate presented to Akers, as well as a ticket to the Closing Ceremony and a newspaper clipping featuring an image of Akers and Carla Overbeck. Also displayed in this frame are five pins, including a 1996 United States Olympic Team pin, a 1996 Olympic Soccer Team pin, and three pins depicting the Olympic torch. An Atlanta 1996 logo is printed on this display in gold. The framed display measures 28 x 19 inches. This item comes with a LOA from Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
