Women’s soccer made its first appearance as an Olympic sport during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The United States team was comprised of such stars as Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain and Michelle Akers. The U.S. squad finished their preliminary round play with two wins, one draw and no losses. That propelled them into the knockout stage, and in the semi-finals against Norway, the United States trailed 1-0 until Akers scored to tie the game at the 76-minute mark. The Americans would go on to win, 2-1, to set up a rematch vs. China in the final, a team the U.S. had earlier played to a scoreless tie. Another 2-1 victory gave the United States the Gold Medal.

Offered here is a 10K gold 1996 Michelle Akers Atlanta Olympics Team USA member ring, featuring a green stone in the center, with “1996 Olympic Team” appearing in relief work around the perimeter. One side is centered by an image of a soccer player kicking the ball, above “XXVI OLYMPIAD”. The name “AKERS” appears at the top, with the year “1996” at the bottom. An Atlanta 1996 Olympics logo is displayed on the opposite side, with “USA” above and “1896” below. This approximate size 8 ½ ring is marked inside the band “ACCR 10K”, with the weight of the ring approximately 6.7 grams. This item comes with a LOA from Michelle Akers and a portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach Inc.
