Chicago Bulls power forward Dennis Rodman wore this red Bulls road jersey during the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. The Bulls, in the second year of Jordan’s second three-peat, finished the regular season with an outstanding 69-13 record and the Number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Washington Bullets, Atlanta Hawks, and Miami Heat were disposed of with the typical dismissiveness of Michael Jordan’s Bulls, who dropped only two games during the Eastern Conference Playoffs.

The Western Conference’s entrant in the 1997 Finals was the Utah Jazz, led by their dynamic duo of Karl Malone and John Stockton. The Jazz were the number one seed in the West, but the Bulls needed only six games to dispatch their soon-to-be familiar foes. Game 5 was the legendary “Flu Game”, with an ailing Michael Jordan scoring 38 points on the Delta Center floor to give the Bulls a two-point win in a riveting 90-88 contest. Games 3, 4, and 5 of this series took place in Utah, with the Jazz taking the third and fourth games before Jordan came alive in Game 5.

Rodman played a key role for the Bulls in this series, helping to limit Malone’s scoring output to a manageable 23.8 points per game, well below his regular season average of 27.4. Rodman started all six games of the Finals for Chicago, averaging 2.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in a series defined by its manic defensive intensity.
