Cal Ripken, Jr. surpassed that other great Baltimore infielder, Brooks Robinson, for team career hits on August 21, 1998. In the game against Cleveland, Cal hit an infield single off Jaret Wright in the seventh inning, passing Brooks’ record of 2,848 Orioles career hits. This was the uniform the Orioles legend was wearing for that milestone hit. The jersey has been photo matched to three games – April 25th, May 2nd and May 17th by Sports Investors Authentication.

The home white jersey has “Orioles” across the front above Cal’s number “8” in orange and black tackle twill. The collar, front and sleeve ends are trimmed in black piping and a Russell size 48 label is sewn in the left front tail. “August 21, 1998” has been handwritten in black marker on a hang tag affixed below. The back features “RIPKEN” in orange and black tackle twill on a white name plate above his number “8” in identical colors. The jersey shows light game use and the Hall of Famer has signed the front in black marker with, “Oriole Hit Record Aug 21, 1998.” The matching white pants have black piping down each leg and has the waistband has a Russell size 38 label and a white strip tag with “8 RIPKEN 37/40-34-98” affixed. The pants show light use and the left thigh has been signed by the Iron Man in black marker. The pair of black socks show good game use and both have Cal’s number “8” hand written in black marker. The Nike undershirt Ripken wore that historic day has been inscribed with “8/21/98” in silver marker. The black uniform belt completes this museum-ready uniform set. This uniform set comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use and signature and a certificate from Beckett Authentication stating they witnessed Cal Ripken, Jr. signing this item. The jersey has been photo matched by Sports Investors Authentication to the April 25th, May 2nd and May 17th games.
