After Cal Ripken, Jr’s triumphant final All-Star Game at Seattle’s Safeco Field where he earned MVP honors, Ripken would return to Seattle for the final time two months later in early September. Ripken would play his final game in Seattle during the September 9th, 2001 game and this offered base was used during that game. This Schutte base comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and features Ripken’s number “8” in large font on the top of the base in orange with black borders. The sides of the base have Ripken’s “8” on opposite panels, with the 2001 All-Star Game logo panel on one side and the MLB logo on the opposite side. The base displays moderate use with some dirt and abrasion stains and on the underside is handwritten in blue marker “Seattle 9/9/01”. The metal anchor is still attached to the underside of this base. This comes with a signed LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr and there is also an MLB Authenticated hologram (GT038834) attached.
