Legendary video game designor, artist and illustrator Ken Sugimori is the character designer and art director of the global phenomenon Pokémon. What started as pair of video games for the original Nintendo Game Boy handheld system in 1996, Pokémon has become the highest-grossing media franchise of all time with an estimated franchise value of $90 billion.
Offered here is an original drawing of the Pichu character, which is the number 172 in the Pokémon universe. Pichu has static abilities and charges itself with electricity more easily on days with thunderclouds or when the air is very dry. Sugimori’s drawing is on artist's cardboard-like paper with the gold border with the full character in it’s regular colors of yellow, with black bordered ears and pink cheeks. Sugimori signed his name in bold black marker on the lower right corner in English and above in Japanese. A true treasure to own an original drawing by the artist himself. There are very few known Ken Sugimori authentic and signed drawings and this one was the prize for the winning competitor on what is New York City declared at the time as "Pokemon Day". This comes with a LOA from Pokémon USA that states in the LOA “Please find enclosed original artwork drawn and signed by Pokémon artist Ken Sugimori.” There is also photographs from the event where Hulk Hogan presented the award to our consigner at the National Pokemon Video Game Championships in Bryant Park New York. An additional LOA from JSA for Sugimori’s signature will also accompany.
