The Naismith Hall of Fame Class of 2009 was by far the most star-studded. Heading up the group of five was C. Vivian Stringer, iconic college coach who logged more than 800 wins in the course of guiding three different universities to the NCAA Final Four. Two-time Olympian, original “Dream Team” member and career Utah Jazzman John Stockton left a pair of career records, assists and steals, when he retired. Jerry Sloan was the second coach inducted that year, the only head coach in NBA history to win over 1,000 games with one team. David Robinson was another original member of the “Dream Team” and was the driving force behind two San Antonio Spurs Championships. But as great as those four inductees were, the marquee star that year was the man who reinvented the way the game was played: Michael Jordan.

To commemorate this extraordinary Class of 2009, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame commissioned artist Adam Port to create a sweeping original piece that depicts each inductee both in their prime and as they appeared in the present. This acrylic and colored pencil work on gesso board measures a majestic 33 ½” x 57 ½ inches, from which five giclée prints made and presented to each member of the Class of 2009. This, however, is the actual painting, stunning in its original form, professionally framed to the Hall of Fame proportions of 35 ½ x 60 inches. A tremendous work of sports art, created specifically for the greatest inductee class ever enshrined into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium (28% if payment is made using a credit card and/or is not paid within 10 days of invoice). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price to The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
