In 2009, longtime star outfielder Gary Sheffield became the 25th MLB player to reach the 500 Home Run Club. Plying his trade for the New York Mets, Sheffield hit his 500th homer on April 19th. Sheffield wore the offered gray Mets road jersey on May 22nd, during a game at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. Sheffield led off the top of the second inning with a thunderous home run down the left field line against Red Sox ace Daisuke Matsuzaka. This was the 502nd home run of Sheffield’s illustrious career, which includes nine All-Star appearances and the 1992 National League batting title. The veteran outfielder finished the May 22nd game 1-3, with an RBI and two runs scored in the Mets 5-3 victory. Sheffield, playing in his final season, finished the 2009 campaign with 509 career home runs.

This button down, gray jersey has “NEW YORK” and Sheffield’s number “10” sewn on the chest in blue, orange, and black tackle twill. “SHEFFIELD” and a second “10” are sewn on the back in blue, orange, and black tackle twill. An MLB logo patch is sewn on the back outside collar, while a circular Mets skyline logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve above a blue Majestic logo. A Majestic size “50” tag has been applied to the front left tail of the jersey. The underarm areas of the jersey are made of a gray mesh fabric and blue piping accents the front and sleeves of the jersey. This jersey comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (LH 418161) which authenticates the use of the jersey to the May 22nd game. It also authenticates Sheffield’s signature to June 24th, 2009, the date of a Mets 11-0 home victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
