In their first year after moving into their new modern Stadium, the 2009 New York Yankees achieved the same result the Babe Ruth led 1923 Yankees did when they opened the original Yankee Stadium – winning a World Championship. After defeating the then-reigning champion Philadelphia Phillies in a stirring six game series for an unparalleled 27th World Series title.
This glorious trophy design is the end result of the season that welcomed the new Yankee Stadium with the franchise’s 27th World Series title. While several smaller trophies are produced for the players and executives, this massive piece of metal is a replica of the owner's trophy. Approximately 24 inches tall, 13 inches in diameter and weighing more than 30 pounds, this is a high-quality replica. 30 gold plated flags representing all the teams in each league surround a silver baseball with 24-karat stitching and etched with longitude and latitude lines that symbolize the “world” in “World Series”. The gold band on the top of the base has etched “PRESENTED BY THE COMMISSIONER OF BASEBALL” and is completed with a “NEW YORK YANKEES 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS" that is etched on the silver base.
